I've been slow to share the good news, but on Tuesday, I'm headed to Central Africa for the International Women's Media Foundation's first Eastern DR Congo Reporting Fellowship.

On Thursday, I'll join five other women in Kampala, Uganda for three days of security training. Then, we're headed to Goma, DRC, where we'll spend a week pursuing different stories related to the fellowship's themes: economic development, democracy and governance and the impact of aid. At some point, we'll also tour Virunga National Park (!).

It's been nearly three years since I've been to Africa, so I'm thrilled about returning to the continent, visiting a different region, and having the opportunity to report on stories that offer new narratives on Eastern Congo.
